The U 534 at sea during World War Two. The date of this picture is unknown and was very likley taken in the Baltic during training. It was sunk on the 5th of May 1945. On display at the Historic Warships site are photographs taken by the aircraft that attacked and sank the U 534. It is even possible to see the crew in these photographs.

U 534 as being raised from the seabed. Its outer fittings eaten away by the sea and covered in marine growth. Inside is several Tons of mud and many artifacts to be discovered.

The U 534 on its barge in the Mersey ready to enter Birkenhead after a long journey across the North Sea.

The U 534 moving into position for being placed ashore at the Historic Warships site in Birkenhead. May 29th 1996. It was driven off the barge on to the quayside by a very clever set of articulaited powered wheels.

The teeth of the underwater killer. This picture shows the bow of U 534 with its Torpedo tubes. Some of the Torpedos were still in these tubes when it was raised. They were the first things removed and the destroyed in a carefully controlled explosion.

The gun of the U 534 still pointing skyward after all these years. A chilling reminder of its last battle before being sunk.

The remains of the conning tower of U534. Some was damaged during the attack but the rest being thin steal has been eaten away by the sea.

The starboard side of the U534 which took the force of the bomb that sank it. The damage can be seen near the stern.

The bomb damage that sank the U 534. Note the broken shaft and the hull plates buckled by the pressure blast from the explosions.

The fairly undamaged Port side aft. This picture shows a good view of the propellers and rudders. Note also the aft Torpedo tubes. When raised a live torpedo was 'hanging out' of one the tubes!
